The Meteorological Department announced that Perlis is experiencing a heatwave after Stage Two hot weather was declared, with daily maximum temperatures ranging between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days.
Perlis experiences the “winter wind” season annually during the northeast monsoon, lasting from December to March. This season brings dry, hot days and cool nights with temperatures dropping to around 20 degrees Celsius.
However, the situation this year worsened with the El Niño phenomenon and other climate change factors.
Besides the drying grass and trees, especially in the limestone hills of the Nakawan Range, the low water level at the Timah Tasoh reservoir has caused an old submerged road to resurface.
