KINILENS | The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur was illuminated yesterday as it celebrated the ‘Lucia Celebration of Lights’ in honour of Saint Lucia.
Saint Lucia was an Italian martyr known for bringing light and hope during the darkest days of winter.
The event, held annually on Dec 13, was organised by the Swedish Embassy in Malaysia and the Church of Sweden.
It was a cherished Swedish tradition involving a procession and singing of traditional songs led by a young girl dressed as Lucia, in a white gown and a crown of candles.
She was accompanied by other children dressed in white robes and lighted wreaths on their heads.
Saint Lucia Day is not only a religious observance but also a cultural event that brings communities together to celebrate light, warmth, and the enduring spirit of goodwill.
