Astrologers from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) and officials from the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (Jupem) observed the moon’s position today.
Stationed in Putrajaya, they used a theodolite - a precision optical instrument - and telescope to determine the new moon which indicated the start of the Ramadan fasting month.
There are 29 official observation stations throughout the country, including here at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
