Thousands of people flooded the Shah Alam national sports complex in Selangor yesterday to celebrate an annual cultural festival originating from the Land of the Rising Sun, Bon Odori.
Many were dressed up in traditional Japanese attire such as kimono and yukata and could be seen performing the Buyuo-Duo, Bon Odori, and Wadaiko dances alongside songs and drum beats.
Earlier, the festival was under the spotlight after Religious Affairs Minister Idris Ahmad told Muslims not to attend the event, claiming Jakim believed the festival contained religious elements that could lead Muslims astray.
It is estimated that the 46th Bon Odori festival drew over 35,000 visitors.
