Today marks another chapter in diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China as a naming ceremony was held for the third giant panda cub born in Malaysia.
The female cub was named Sheng Yi, which means “peace” and “friendship”. She was born on May 31, 2021 at 8.30pm with a weight of around 140g. She will be one year old at the end of this month.
Sheng Yi is the third cub born to a pair of giant pandas in Malaysia, Xing Xing and Liang Liang. Nuan Nuan, who was born in 2015, and Yi Yi, born in 2018, have been sent back to China.
Sheng Yi is in good health and has reached a weight of over 27kg.
