KINILENS | Farmers in Penang kickstart the first paddy season of the year by ploughing the rice plains before sowing the seeds needed to produce the country's staple food.
Seberang Perai Utara district has one of the state's biggest paddy fields which is dependant on Sungai Muda. The river is now at the right level to supply sufficient water for rice cultivation and agriculture.
Sungai Muda also provides 80 percent of the state's raw water supply for its people and is the subject of a feud between the Kedah and Penang governments over riparian rights.
