A giant paper effigy of the "Da Shi Ye" or "Guardian God of Ghosts" burns during the Chinese Hungry Ghost Festival in Pudu, Kuala Lumpur on Monday, 13 Aug.
The Hungry Ghost Festival is celebrated during the seventh month of the Chinese lunar calendar.
Buddhist and Taoist devotees hold prayers and submit offerings to the guardians of hell and the spirits as a mark of respect.
It is believed that the gates of hell are opened during the month and the dead ancestors return to visit their relatives.
