Umno Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin sits alone in the Dewan Rakyat after his fellow opposition lawmakers staged a walkout in protest over the appointment of the speaker.

MPs from Umno and PAS questioned if the 14-day notification period to the house for the nomination of Mohd Ariff Md Yusof was fulfilled.

Dewan Rakyat secretary Roosme Hamzah had told MPs that a nomination letter from Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad was received on July 2, to which the opposition lawmakers responded with chants of “Tipu, tipu (lying, lying).”

Despite his colleagues walking out, Khairy and Umno Kimanis MP Anifah Aman elected to stay behind.
