Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu began work today by inspecting the Malay Regiment guard of honour, but few would realise something was amiss.

Mohamad later revealed in a statement that he had made a mistake during the ceremony by failing to salute the royally-conferred regimental colours. 

"I was briefed about it, but as a mere mortal, I cannot escape from making errors. Today is my first day at the Defence Ministry, I am in the process of learning military protocols," he said.
