Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek has called for more research to be conducted into the aphrodisiac qualities of durians, calling it "good for men."

Ahmad Shabery had also said that the hike in durian prices is due to seasonal shortfall, and not due to exports to China, a country where he claimed the fruit is as popular as the iPhone X.
