Taoists pray and make offerings during the Nine Emperor Gods Festival at the Nan Tian Gong temple in Ampang, Selangor.

The festival, mainly observed by Taoists, is dedicated to the nine sons of Dou Mu, the Goddess of the North Star, who is believed to control the Books of Life and Death.

The Nine Emperor Gods Festival, also known as Kew Ong Yeah Festival, started on Oct 20 which was the first day of the ninth lunar month.

During the nine-day celebration, devotees observe strict vegetarian diet.
