About 55,000 flood Padang Merbok, Kuala Lumpur to support amendments to the Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act (Act 355), Feb 18, 2017.
The amending bill mooted in PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's private member's bill seeks to raise the maximum penalty meted out by the syariah court to RM100,000 fine, 30 years' jail and 100 strokes of the whip.
The current liimit is RM5,000 fine, three years' jail and six strokes of the whip.
Meanwhile, in Petaling Jaya a smaller crowd gathers to oppose the amendments, which it says is unconstitutional in secular Malaysia.
