Ham sandwich fiasco
A ham and cheese sandwich from a convenience store might seem like an innocuous choice for a quick-to-go meal.
However, the humble sandwich is now the latest fiasco tearing at the country's social fabric.
This is after conservatives including Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh kicked up a fuss about how ham - on the assumption it was pork - could be halal certified.
They were half right.
It turned out that the ham in question was made of chicken and the cold cut itself was reportedly halal-certified.
However, the company that made the sandwiches was not authorised to put a halal label on the completed product, which is a criminal offence.

Addendum gag order
The Attorney-General's Chambers wants the High Court to issue a gag order on the royal addendum matter concerning Najib Abdul Razak.
This comes after the AGC was accused of both incompetence and treason in how it handled the addendum, which was received by the previous attorney-general.
However, the order did not appear to have support from Umno, including from Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Azalina Othman Said.

Nhaveen murder back on trial
The Court of Appeal ordered four individuals accused of the murder of T Nhaveen in Penang seven years ago to enter their defence.
The appellate court overturned an earlier decision by the Penang High Court, which dismissed the case two years ago.
The accused are also to be placed under remand pending trial.
A fifth accused - who was charged mid-trial - remains acquitted.
