Pen + camera = Kaboom in HD
“More than a dozen videos”.
This is what the whistleblower, who ignited a firestorm in Sabah with his videos, told Malaysiakini when asked if he had more than just the seven recordings he had released.
Revealing his secret for the first time, the businessperson said he filmed his discussions with the assemblypersons using a pen fitted with a high-definition camera he had purchased from Shopee.
“It cost RM75.90,” he said.
The whistleblower claimed that the videos contained discussions with the politicians about alleged bribes he had given them to support a mining exploration licence application.
“I got the idea of using the camera pen from a movie. So I searched for it online and found one on Shopee.
“Since I felt I had nothing to lose, I decided to teach these politicians a lesson. I was aware of the risks but at the same time, it was a ‘do or die’ situation,” he added.
The whistleblower was furious because his licence had been cancelled.
However, Chief Minister Hajiji Noor has dismissed the “edited videos” and denied the corruption allegation.
Sabah Umno has called on the chief minister to resign whereas Warisan wanted those implicated to be remanded pending investigation.

‘Royal confirmation’ of house arrest addendum
In the latest twist to the Najib Abdul Razak saga, his son Mohd Nizar has filed an affidavit affirming that the Pahang sultan told him about a royal addendum meant to allow the former premier to serve the remainder of his six-year jail sentence under house arrest.
The affidavit was filed two days before yesterday’s Court of Appeal hearing of Najib’s appeal to be granted leave to commence judicial review for implementation of the alleged supplementary royal decree.
A source familiar with the matter confirmed with Malaysiakini that Nizar filed the affidavit as part of an application to adduce additional evidence.
According to the five-page affidavit that Malaysiakini sighted, Nizar claimed the state royal informed him of the addendum’s existence when he was at a launching ceremony in Pahang on Aug 4 between 8pm and 9pm. The Pahang sultan officiated the event.
Nizar claimed that as the event was winding down, the state royal signalled to him for a private discussion.
Nizar claimed the sultan told him he would be handed a written copy of the alleged royal addendum which was not signed or sealed, for “record-keeping”.

RCI proposes criminal probe for Dr M
Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been accused of “deceiving” his cabinet during his second tenure as prime minister from 2018 to 2020 and therefore should be subjected to a criminal investigation.
This was the conclusion of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on Batu Puteh, Batuan Tengah, and Tubir Selatan.
The report claimed Mahathir deceived the cabinet in 2018 into withdrawing Malaysia’s review of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) decision to award sovereignty over Batu Puteh to Singapore.
The RCI said Mahathir had already made a unilateral decision to drop the review without the cabinet and had merely briefed cabinet members on why he had done so.
It opined that if the cabinet had been presented with the cause papers and written opinions of international negotiators, it might have had a different opinion about the review bid.
This, the commission said, caused the government to suffer a wrongful loss.
