YOURSAY | No reason for DAP to quit govt over addendum

YOURSAY | ‘Wee is just trying to put DAP into a spot.’

Wee: Will DAP quit govt in protest if Najib granted house arrest?

Robbie98: MCA president Wee Ka Siong, the once mighty MCA, has two MPs as opposed to DAP’s 40. So you know who the Chinese and non-Malays support.

You are probably aware that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s absolute discretion was removed in a constitutional amendment by your own BN party in 1994. He has to follow the advice of the Pardons Board.

The board in turn also has to follow some well-defined rules which I am sure you are aware of.

The provision for house arrest is not clearly defined, hence the hasty attempt to introduce a bill, which has yet to be passed.

Now, Mr Wee, you have to decide as to who should resign. You or Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng? We, the voting public, know the answer.

BlueShark1548: Wee, you premised your statements entirely on your assumption that there was an addendum.

So far there is no evidence of an addendum, just you guys at BN promoting this speculation.

Why is it that none of you, including former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, have dared to ask the former Agong about it?

Even if there was an addendum, our law has no concept of house arrest. So can a royal decree make a new law without passing it through Parliament?

BN is a member of the unity government. Why are you embarrassing Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and doing the work of the opposition leader?

Bluemountains: DAP cannot simply oppose as it is now part of the government.

DAP is now being seen by the Chinese community as not fighting for the interest of the people and the country, particularly for the Chinese.

DAP under the PKR-led govt is seen like MCA during the Umno-led government. DAP has disappointed the Chinese just like how MCA has disappointed them.

Will DAP be able to retain all its 40 seats in the 16th general election? I have my doubts.

LETDOWN SINCE 2018: A very relevant question to DAP. MCA for now has already lost the support of the voters that it is supposed to represent, so what MCA stands for is quite irrelevant.

However, DAP with 40 MPs is the largest representation in the government and is the instigator of the Asal Bukan Umno (ABU) campaign.

Having won the majority of non-Malay support why still bother with MCA or is it because DAP is becoming what they said of MCA?

Umno is now DAP’s new best friend and Umno has been very consistent with Bossku. Stirring up matters that will eventually return to bite you is not very smart.

WhiteMoose0037: The wise thing for you, Wee, is to call it quits for MCA. Be magnanimous, and inform your members to follow you and join DAP.

That is the only avenue left for you to take before you vanquish with nothing to show if you want to be remembered as a politician.

Umno will let you know that it is time to care for ourselves as we need the numbers.

If you have to fight DAP for a seat, you will lose.

If you trust Zahid, then you are not a mature politician.

IndigoTrout2522: Wee and MCA are so irrelevant that he is trying to make headlines.

Didn’t you conveniently forget that you and your party were part of BN and you were as quiet as a church mouse during the saga of 1MDB and Najib?

Instead, you are now trying to point fingers at DAP and Pakatan Harapan.

What have you contributed positively since your party got rejected by voters, except complaining and playing politics?

FellowMalaysian: As the head of a party with a measly two MPs to show for it, Wee has no right to ask DAP to quit if Najib is granted house arrest.

What has Wee or any senior MCA party members said or done to condemn Najib’s involvement in the 1MDB conundrum over the past ten years?

Wee has crossed the board in making ridiculous claims, and he will be severely reprimanded by DAP leaders soon.

Chefoo: A community leader hailing for a convicted person to be given house arrest.

Did he even consider the crime Najib has committed and the generations of financial burden he has let the country bear?

He is championing an addendum to be in the good books of Umno. Umno leaders dare not speak up and got this loose cannon to do the job.

mhc9b23: Hello, why should DAP quit the unity government in protest?

Perhaps you think they should, for reasons only known to you, but for most of us, that would be a stupid and childish move. Throwing tantrums should no longer be the order of the day.

That goes against our culture and does not reflect well on the leadership. Nothing ever gets done by sulking!

Lone_star: Simple. The question should be put to yourself and MCA.

Would MCA quit the government in protest should Najib be given house arrest?

Is MCA part of the same government that he is accusing of hiding something?

Anonymous_3f4b: MCA is obviously supporting Umno and clamouring for Najib to serve out his sentence under house arrest. What about DAP?

They campaigned fiercely against Najib and pressed for his conviction, but at the end of the day sheepishly accepted the possibility of his house arrest and impending pardon without quitting the unity government for self-interest and glory.

R Venugopal: What is Wee and MCA’s stand on the possibility of Najib being put under house arrest? Let us know your stand.

Maybe both MCA and DAP should get out of the government. Can they do it?

nebuchadnezzar23: These spars between MCA and DAP are getting ridiculous. Wee acts like a hero, sparring with DAP reps. Likewise, the DAP guys provoke MCA.

Are they fighting to be heroes of the Chinese community? Can we move beyond the one-up-manship and focus on the needs of the “rakyat”?

GoldenParrot4280: Sounds like a red herring. Wee is just trying to put DAP in a spot. This is the MCA of today.

Maybe introducing some new blood would be beneficial to the party.
