YOURSAY | ‘Why should anyone have confidence in you or your party, Muhyiddin?’
Is PN for all or just Malays? Muhyiddin answers
Koel: Perikatan Nasional needs to start being an effective and competent opposition. Where is the outcry against former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and former treasury secretary-general Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah’s DNAA (discharge not amounting to an acquittal court decision) handed out today (yesterday)?
Why are there no demands for the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) office to recharge these alleged embezzlers immediately? Why is there no condemnation of the incompetence of the AG, the DPP (deputy public prosecutors) and the entire agency tainted by yet another DNAA for a huge corruption case?
If you cannot step up and demand concrete actions and steps to be taken on alleged corrupt cases, why should anyone have any confidence in you or your party? Or even believe that you are developing good governance practices?
KK Voter: Terengganu Menteri Besar (Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar) is an aerospace engineer from a university in the United States. The profile is irrelevant. Educated racists are still racists.
Terengganu is the one state that banned a temple from holding the Hungry Ghost Festival inside its own compound because peeping toms could see the performance through the fence. Among many other “firsts,” this was accomplished in one term compared to what Kelantan did over 30 years.
Do you remember during the movement control order, when the reopening of businesses was allowed, you (former prime minister and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin) stood beside PAS and your own ministers, selectively disallowing eateries serving alcohol or entertainment outlets from reopening, and made snide passing remarks, “hoping they will never reopen,” in your official capacity?
Do you remember the budget presented by your finance minister, where the first 30 minutes were not about budget and expenditure but about handouts and more handouts to a certain community?
Do you remember the other budget under you, the most lopsided in Malaysia’s history, to the extent that some leaders and financial analysts themselves questioned it? Enough said. The evidence is in the public domain and cannot be erased.
BlueShark1548: After more than 60 years since Merdeka, we still have leaders who pursue race and religion politics. Malay leaders like those in PN have no vision for the nation to progress as a united nation but intend to maintain power through their divisive politics.
They have paid less attention to our Constitution and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). When is Malaysia going to have a leader with a vision of Malaysia for all Malaysians? Also, when are we going to implement needs and merits-based policies instead of race and religion-based policies which have failed us?
ScarletViper9930: Judging by past performances, non-Malays will always reject Muhyiddin and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s leadership. No rhetoric nor promises can change their minds.
Unless a new candidate arises with a new mindset, and new inclusive ways of doing things, PN and PAS will be a no-go ground for non-Malay votes.
Attackedbymonkeys: This is the political reality in Malaysia. Any party in power will move to the centre (whether it is PAS, DAP, Bersatu or Umno). They will play to the gallery only when they are in the opposition.
The right question to ask is: What are your plans to boost our economy, tackle the cost-of-living crisis, and initiate education and institutional reforms? Let them present their case to us the rakyat. We can elect and kick out any party or coalition (which does not have an effective plan).
'Poster boy' Muhyiddin says PN supreme council will decide PM candidate
mgpowl: How can the people choose when Muhyiddin appointed himself as president without a contest? They didn’t have a choice, it was just like the appointment of Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister (after the November 2022 general election).
If Muhyiddin is serious about respecting the democratic processes, he will call for an emergency general meeting to hold elections for the president and deputy presidents’ positions. Then the supreme council can choose an elected PM candidate.
Lone_star: Malaysiakini, the rakyat is not interested in who PN’s Poster Boy is or will be. The rakyat is fully aware of the chances of PN winning in the 16th general election, though some may disagree.
The rakyat is truly interested in where is Muhyiddin’s son-in-law presently. This is the burning question Malaysiakini should be asking. With his religious background, which he said during his interview, his answer cannot be a lie, right?
Jimmy Page: Muhyiddin is not an effective opposition leader. There are so many bread-and-butter issues that he is not voicing out. One can only imagine, that if Anwar is in the opposition, this “D” grade government is finished.
Open mind: It is simple to judge the potential of a PM candidate, whether he can be effective or not. Just compare the states managed by Pakatan Harapan and the states managed by PAS, and you will have the answer.
