Mara Incorporated Sdn Bhd overpaid for three properties in Australia and the United Kingdom in 2013 and 2014, even though the Finance Ministry had rejected its application to buy those properties, the Public Accounts Committee was told.

The purchase was only greenlit after Mara Inc appealed to the Economic Council, a council led by then-prime minister Najib Abdul Razak. Najib was also the finance minister.
