India will hold its high-stakes parliamentary election in seven phases starting April 19, the Election Commission announced on Saturday.

Almost 969 million voters are eligible to participate in the massive electoral exercise in which 543 members of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of parliament, will be chosen.
