Is R Subashini being penalised by the system because she refused to follow her ex-husband's footsteps in converting to Islam, asks a reader who adds that a good Muslim owes his former wife a good life.
On Subashini's husband: Stop judging me
Ahmad Kamal: It is well and good that R Subashini's husband is good to his Hindu mother. But he makes no mention that he ought to be nice to his Hindu wife with whom he had two children, the eldest being only three. Why nice to the Hindu mother and not to the Hindu wife?
It's the legal system, and some lawyers and judges who have interpreted the legal system as such, that he has cut off all ties upon conversion. So if he is a good Muslim now, one should think that he owes Subashini a good life after his 'divorce' by conversion into a different religion.
Forget the legal system. Why can't he right now draw up an agreement to manage any family arrangement. A Muslim is bound by his conditions. Do the Muslim thing. Do the right thing and do good to your Hindu wife, man!
I might ask why has she not decided not to convert? And whether she is being penalised by that refusal?
Be kind to your Hindu wife. The Muslim Prophet extols kindness to spouses. Besides, as far as the state law is concerned, she remains a wife under the civil law.
On Najib: What vested interest in NS?
Tim: If there's any word or phrase to describe the National Service, then it must be the mother of all farces and DPM Najib and the Malaysian government must be held responsible for every death that occurs within the camp perimeter.
Parents, whose kids become fatalities at the campsites must exercise their rights by bringing to book the government of the day.
Aren't the NS trainees taken for a roller-coaster ride? Made to enroll in a programme thinking that it would lead to a more racially-integrated Malaysia only to discover (when they pass out) that the very people behind this hare-brained scheme are still stuck in the Jurassic era, happily indulging in dated communal politics under their respective race-based parties.
Conceived by circus-masters, implemented by comedians and run by clowns, the NS is best seen as an exercise in futility and is politically-hypocritical since it simply contradicts the actual political scenario in Malaysia.
Children must never be used as pawns to satisfy the self-serving whims of their political-masters.
On Khairy: Aussie mansion belongs to PM's son
SKN: I have one very simple question to ask Khairy - who is he to make statements about who owns the mansion?
The PM or his son cannot do this?
More important, who is he to make statements about Malaysia's foreign affairs? The PM and the foreign minister cannot do this?
As far as the public is concerned, he is small fry in Umno Youth and is married to the PM's daughter. Or is he the de facto PM as many people are saying?
Please tell us that.
On PM: No disagreement over RHB buyover
Concerned Non-Economist: On Tuesday, in Parliament the second finance minister said that the purchase of 32.6% of RHB shares held by Utama Banking Group (UGB) for RM2.25 billion was not a bailout. He may be right.
But can he explain why Utama Banking Group paid out RM2 per share as a result of the sale? And also, who are the major shareholders of UGB just to confirm that there is no conflict of interest?
On this matter, I am disappointed with our so-called journalists who are unable to link events in their reports. To my mind, there is a lot of intellectual dishonesty going on in our mass media.
These people who are the 'watchdogs' to ensure that the government is run according to the constitution and rules and regulations have abdicated their responsibility and have become lap-dogs.
By the way, can anybody in the media explain why parliamentary proceedings in our supreme law-making body are covered so poorly in the mass media?
On New recruits to improve police efficiency
Tim F Peters: I totally disagree with IGP's proposal for police personnel to receive 20% more in basic salary than any government servant or else corruption will persist. That's akin to saying 'Give us more or we will remain corrupt'.
For the pay rise to be justified, I suggest the government wait for the current batch be phased out and wait for new ones (with the amended higher qualifications) be recruited.
It would be grossly unfair for high-handed, dirty cops to be enjoying the same perks as their honest, hard-working counterparts if the raise proposal were to be put into effect.
Sorry IGP, nothing personal.
On Keng Yaik: Politicians are like wild animals
HL Too: Mr Lim Keng Yaik may think that politicians are like wild animals. On behalf of wild animals that cannot speak for themselves, I would like to register a protest. How dare he insult wild animals by comparing them to politicians and worse still, Malaysian politicians.
KSN: I wish Lim Keng Yaik happy retirement. During his tenure as a politician, he has made lot of statements, some of them good but most mostly unintelligent. I would like Lim to tell the Malaysian public what his achievements have been in the fair and equitable implementation of the NEP and specifically what he did for the eradication of poverty regardless of race and religion.
What has he done for the representation of non-Malays in the full spectrum of the civil service (at least, proportionate to their racial composition of the population), places for non-Malay students and teachers, lecturers, professors, policemen and judges in government service?
What did he do to safeguard their legitimate interests? This assessment with truthful answers will reveal his contributions during his long tenure as party chief and cabinet minister.
Dr Lim, you will not be missed for your performance. Anyone could do what you delivered, probably better. Your party together with the other parasites comprising Umno, MIC and MCA are all the same. I have to say more but I believe, the point is made.
Happy retirement, Dr Lim.
On Anti-piracy dogs strike again
Vijay: Wow! Or is it bow-wow? I am very impressed to read of the exploits of man's best friends and illegal video dealers' worst enemies, Flo and Lucky. They have again unearthed a cache of 50,000 illegal video discs in Petaling Jaya.
I am even more impressed to learn that these two four-legged terrors are the only ones in the world capable of sniffing out polycarbonate and chemicals used in video discs. Once again, Malaysia shows the way and wins by a nose.
But we should not be just sitting on our hind legs nor resting on our laurels. Having proven the talents of these canine cops, we should use their skills on a wider footing and concentrate on an area the whole country is barking about.
What we should do is to fine-tune Flo's and Lucky's olfactory operations and unleash them to smell out corrupt politicians. Just put them on duty outside the Umno headquarters, Klang, and yes, the ACA headquarters. These two wonders will have more than they can chew on.
And making no bones about it, the country will heave a big sigh of relief to see so many on their way to the dog-house.
