Covid-19 (Jan 21): 293 new cases, 2 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 293 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 5,034,521.

Active infections stood at 10,320, down 9.4 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (84)
Kuala Lumpur (69)
Penang (28)
Malacca (19)
Kedah (18)
Johor (15)
Sarawak (15)
Perak (13)
Negeri Sembilan (12)
Putrajaya (6)
Sabah (5)
Terengganu (4)
Kelantan (2)
Pahang (2)
Labuan (1)
Perlis (0)

Another two deaths were reported yesterday. None of them was declared as "brought in dead".

Over the past week, an average of 3.4 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 3.6, indicating that such deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 36,932 deaths have been attributed to the disease.

There are 366 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 12 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Sabah (46) followed by Selangor (42) and Kedah (15).
