YOURSAY | ‘Rain, hail or shine, go and vote on Nov 19.’
Malaysia goes to the polls on Nov 19
Proarte: Pakatan Harapan should now focus on campaigning wholeheartedly and showing the rakyat they are serious about turning this country around and come up with a realistic manifesto.
There must be no hint of squabbling over seats by PKR, DAP and Amanah. There is no time to entertain PSM or Muda and their demands. They should be told to go solo rather than hang on to the coattails of Harapan.
Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and his party Muda are funded by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad's cronies, so Harapan really has to be wary of Muda.
The Muar seat can be won by PKR or DAP easily. Syed Saddiq should go and contest in the rural heartlands where he can show his party, Muda, can bring added value to the opposition.
What benefit is it to Harapan by not contesting seats that it feels it can win purely because it wants to please the egos of the leaders of Muda and PSM?
If Muda and PSM threaten to be "spoilers" if they do not get the ''easy'' seats they are eyeing, then so be it and the attitude of Harapan should be "Bring It On ".
Muda and PSM must show they have real support from the voting public by contesting independently because that is democracy.
If we look at Sungai Siput in 2018, S Kesavan of PKR won and garnered over 20,000 votes with K Devamany of MIC getting around 15,000 votes, PAS 5,000 and the legendary Dr Jeyakumar Devaraj of PSM losing his deposit and getting only 1,500 votes.
That was the democratic choice of the people of Sungai Siput, but did that mean that Jeyakumar's contribution on an individual basis was not recognised or valued by the people of Sungai Siput? No, it did not.
The people of Sungai Siput were looking at the bigger picture and merely supported the coalition Harapan which included PKR, DAP, Amanah and Bersatu which PSM was not part of, whom they thought would have a chance to get rid of former PM Najib Abdul Razak and Umno-BN, which they did.
By trying to hang on to the coattails of Harapan, Muda and PSM are showing they are willing to compromise their party's principles and values purely to get seats which brings along with it positions of power, a generous salary and financial security for life in the form of pensions - it would be showing their true colours as opportunistic politicians who are self-serving.
Dr Raman Letchumanan: I agree, Syed Saddiq is Mahathir's mould, but Harapan was Mahathir's boots. Even now Harapan is clamouring to be Mahathir's slippers at least.
Go ahead, Harapan, be on your own. It is the democratic choice for any party to seek collaboration. But no need to be so bitter and vengeful.
PSM, you have the democratic choice to seek other parties, even BN. And it is the rakyat's democratic choice to vote for who they want. And no person should be bickering about why one should vote so and so.
The Election Commission has thrown a lifeline to the utterly unprepared, fractious Harapan. Will they still be blaming the weather and Umno?
Will they think again about not calling state elections and further inconveniencing the voters in the states they rule?
Scarecrow: I repeat Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan’s advice to prepare our umbrellas and waterproof jackets and inflatable rafts because Umno knew in advance that there will be rain or even flood in some places on Nov 19.
Don’t say you are not forewarned.
Cocomomo: Malaysians, go out and vote. Don’t be disillusioned and stay away. Get rid of the corrupted, racist, religiously bigoted and incompetent ones.
Do not stay away from voting as suggested by so-called ex-Harapan supporters who claim Harapan did not do a good job during their 22 months.
Vote for a new Malaysia. The process of rebuilding will take many years and we need to start now.
Apanama is Back: Contact all your friends, relatives, and acquaintances now. Get them to book the tickets and arrive on Nov 18 or earlier.
For overseas voters, get your postal votes. Ask for Global Bersih help. Time is of the essence. 30 days x 24 hours = 720 hours!
Vote out the kleptocrats from BN and save the country. This should be the clarion call. Let's do it!
Specialist Opening Batsman: This is it. Nov 19, 2022.
To all Malaysians who love this country, let's rekindle the spirit of 14th general elections (GE14) and go out in droves on this day and tell Umno, MCA, MIC, PAS, Bersatu and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) that we Malaysians will not falter in our determination to fight for a better Malaysia.
Together we will take back the mandate from the thieves and the traitors. Yes, Malaysia. Together we can do it again.
Newday: Yes, polish those voting shoes. Get out there, rain, hail or shine, and firmly show Umno the exit this election.
