Covid-19 (Aug 24): 2,636 new cases, 11 deaths

COVID-19 | There were 2,636 new daily Covid-19 cases reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 4,765,188, said the Health Ministry.

Active cases currently stood at 34,970, down 24.1 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (791)
Perak (283)
Sabah (265)
Kuala Lumpur (231)
Negeri Sembilan (161)
Kedah (124)
Sarawak (120)
Penang (112)
Malacca (109)
Johor (106)
Kelantan (85)
Putrajaya (82)
Pahang (75)
Terengganu (71)
Labuan (11)
Perlis (10)

Another 11 deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which five were declared as "brought in dead".

Over the past week, an average of 8.6 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 8.5, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 36,177 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

The state with the highest deaths was Johor (4) followed by Selangor (3), Kedah (1), Perak (1), Sabah (1) and Sarawak (1).

There are 1,379 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 67 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (108) followed by Sabah (87) and Johor (49).
