Covid-19 (July 24): 2,720 new cases, 3 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 2,720 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 4,651,651.

Active cases currently stood at 48,252, up 35.0 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (989)
Perak (253)
Kuala Lumpur (240)
Penang (236)
Sabah (226)
Negeri Sembilan (215)
Malacca (131)
Johor (111)
Kedah (101)
Putrajaya (55)
Kelantan (49)
Sarawak (41)
Pahang (38)
Terengganu (24)
Perlis (6)
Labuan (5)

Another three deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which two were declared as "brought in dead".

These deaths were reported in Perak (2) and Selangor (1).

Over the past week, an average of 8.4 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 5.6, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,914 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There have been 149 reported Covid-19 deaths this month - higher than 89 deaths reported last month and 129 deaths in May.

There are 1,542 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 54 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (141) followed by Sabah (87) and Johor (84).
