Covid-19 (July 20): 5,685 new cases - highest in 3 months

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 5,685 new daily Covid-19 cases yesterday - the highest in three months.

Active cases currently stood at 45,484, up 34.5 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (2,024)
Kuala Lumpur (1,834)
Perak (357)
Sabah (279)
Negeri Sembilan (230)
Penang (205)
Malacca (147)
Johor (126)
Kedah (126)
Putrajaya (92)
Sarawak (85)
Pahang (63)
Kelantan (53)
Terengganu (41)
Labuan (15)
Perlis (8)

Another eight deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which five were declared as "brought in dead".

The deaths were reported in Perak (2), Selangor (2), Kuala Lumpur (2), Johor (1) and Malacca (1).

Over the past week, an average of 7.1 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 4.8, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,878 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There have been 113 reported Covid-19 deaths this month, up from 89 last month.

There are 1,531 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised, of which 56 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (178), followed by Johor (110) and Sabah (88).
