Covid-19 (April 27): 3,471 new cases, 6 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 3,471 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 4,440,383.

Active cases currently stood at 58,437, down 50.4 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (1,915)
Kuala Lumpur (429)
Penang (188)
Malacca (149)
Perak (142)
Johor (124)
Negeri Sembilan (120)
Kedah (104)
Sarawak (104)
Pahang (48)
Kelantan (42)
Sabah (40)
Putrajaya (37)
Terengganu (14)
Perlis (10)
Labuan (5)

Another six deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which four were declared as "brought in dead".

Over the past week, an average of 8.7 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 22.8, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,526 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There have been 543 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 2,235 deaths last month and 770 deaths in February.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 1,071 deaths per 1 million population, and the fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon and Jordan – all in the Middle East.

The highest number of deaths was reported in Selangor (3) followed by Johor (1), Malacca (1) and Penang (1).

Currently, there are 1,501 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 98 are in intensive care.

This includes the 521 that were admitted yesterday. The number of new admissions for Covid-19 patients was relatively unchanged over the past week (525.4 average daily admissions).

The highest number of new admissions was reported in Selangor (175) followed by Johor (99) and Sabah (71).
