Covid-19 (April 11): A respite? 7,739 new cases, 19 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 7,739 new Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative infections to 4,333,557.

Active cases stood at 134,470, down 36.5 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (4,444)
Johor (494)
Negeri Sembilan (472)
Kuala Lumpur (440)
Perak (357)
Penang (309)
Kedah (300)
Terengganu (262)
Sarawak (178)
Kelantan (133)
Pahang (114)
Malacca (105)
Sabah (65)
Putrajaya (33)
Perlis (23)
Labuan (10)

Another 19 deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which three were declared as 'brought in dead'.

Over the past week, an average of 26.3 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 53.1, indicating that such fatalities are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,311 deaths have been attributed to the coronavirus.

There have been 328 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 2,235 deaths last month and 770 in February.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 1,066 deaths per 1 million population, and the fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon and Jordan – all in the Middle East.

Selangor reported the most deaths (4), followed by Johor (2), Kedah (2), Pahang (2), Perak (2), Sarawak (2), Kuala Lumpur (2), Malacca (1), Penang (1), and Terengganu (1).

There are 2,794 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 174 are in intensive care.
