COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 24,316 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday.

There are 247,604 active Covid-19 cases currently, down 23.2 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

New cases in Selangor are at a record high. The previous record was set on March 5.

Another 64 deaths attributed to Covid-19 was reported yesterday, of which 18 was declared as “brought in dead”.

Over the past week, an average of 68.4 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 74.4, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 34,664 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There has been 1,915 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 771 deaths last month and 491 deaths in January.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 1,046 deaths per 1 million population, and fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon and Jordan – all in the Middle East.

The highest number of deaths was reported in Johor (11) followed by Perak (9), Kedah (8), Selangor (8), Malacca (5), Negeri Sembilan (4), Pahang (4), Sarawak (4), Terengganu (3), Penang (2), Sabah (2), Kelantan (2), Perlis (1) and Kuala Lumpur (1).

There are 6,019 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 321 are in intensive care.

According to health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, as of two days ago, the R-number had gone down to 0.90 - a R-number below 1.00 suggests that the spread of Covid-19 was slowing down.

Selangor is the only territory that has a R-number of above 1.00. Covid-19 hospital bed utilisation in the state is at 80 percent.
