Covid-19 (March 14): 22,030 new cases, 92 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 22,030 new daily Covid-19 cases was reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 3,845,601.

Active cases currently stood at 308,943, up 5.3 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (4,388)
Johor (2,419)
Kedah (2,382)
Kuala Lumpur (2,214)
Penang (2,137)
Negeri Sembilan (1,359)
Terengganu (1,222)
Pahang (1,151)
Perak (1,122)
Kelantan (1,086)
Sarawak (965)
Sabah (622)
Malacca (564)
Putrajaya (159)
Perlis (153)
Labuan (87)

Another 92 deaths attributed to Covid-19 was reported yesterday, of which 33 was declared as 'brought in dead'.

Over the past week, an average of 84.9 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 59.5, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 33,899 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 997 deaths per 1 million population, and fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon and Jordan – all in the Middle East.

There has been 1,150 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. By comparison, there were 771 deaths last month and 491 deaths in January.

Kedah recorded the highest number of new deaths at 28, making up 30.4 percent of the newly reported fatalities.

The remaining deaths were in Johor (15), Selangor (14), Penang (7), Perak (6), Negeri Sembilan (5), Pahang (5), Sabah (5), Sarawak (3), Terengganu (3) and Kelantan (1).

No new deaths were reported in Malacca, Perlis, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.

There are 8,400 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised, of which 388 are in intensive care.

Hospital capacity nationwide is at 68.3 percent.
