COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 31,490 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 3,680,953.

Active cases currently stood at 306,681, up 10.5 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Another 79 deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which 19 were declared as 'brought in dead'.

Over the past week, an average of 79.6 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 45.0, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 33,384 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 997 deaths per 1 million population, and fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon and Jordan – all in the Middle East.

The highest number of deaths was reported in Johor (16) followed by Kedah (13), Perak (13), Selangor (11), Pahang (5), Sabah (5), Kelantan (4), Malacca (3), Penang (2), Putrajaya (2) and Negeri Sembilan (1).

There are 8,668 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 373 are in intensive care.

According to health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, ICU bed use by Covid-19 patients is highest in Kelantan (73 percent), Putrajaya (67 percent) and Kuala Lumpur (62 percent).

As for regular beds for Covid-19 patients, the highest utilisation rate was seen in Selangor (109 percent), Putrajaya (104 percent) and Kuala Lumpur (94 percent).
