Covid-19 (Feb 15): 22,133 new cases

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported another 22,133 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the cumulative infections to 3,083,683.

They were more than the number of Covid-19 patients who recovered, which totalled 7,584. This is expected to increase the number of active cases.

As of last night, the R-number was 1.38, down from 1.43 the previous day. An R-number of more than 1.00 suggests that the spread of Covid-19 was accelerating.

The R-number is the highest in Labuan and no states have an R-number below 1.00.

The states with an infectivity rate above the national average are Labuan (1.94), Sarawak (1.56), Sabah (1.56), Penang (1.43), Perlis (1.41) and Kedah (1.4).

The Health Ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.

The breakdown by states for yesterday (Feb 14), where 21,315 new cases were reported, is as follow:

At present, 194 Covid-19 patients are in the intensive care unit of which 120 are unable to breathe on their own and have been intubated.

This is an increase of 40.6 percent compared to the 138 Covid-19 patients in the intensive care unit a week ago.

To date, 444 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including 16 new clusters reported today.

There were 6,419 Covid-19 patients that were hospitalised as of yesterday, up 40 percent compared to a week ago.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was seen in the Klang Valley (430 admitted) followed by Johor (368) and Sabah (335).

Johor is currently reporting a hospital bed utilisation rate of 82.9 percent.

The ongoing clusters have seen an increase of 18.4 percent from the 375 active clusters a week ago.
