COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 13,944 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,939,198.

The fresh infections today are the highest in 137 days, since Sep 24.

They were more than the number of Covid-19 patients who recovered, which totalled 5,421. This is expected to increase the number of active cases.

As of yesterday, the national infectivity rate (R-number) stood at 1.32. This is higher than the number at any time last year, including during the devastating Delta wave.

The states with an infectivity rate above the national average are Sabah (1.54), Perlis (1.54), Sarawak (1.48) and Terengganu (1.36).

The value must be kept under 1.0 to prevent an exponential spread of the virus.

The Health Ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.

The breakdown by states for yesterday (Feb 7), where 11,034 new cases were reported, is as follows:

Selangor (2,411)
