COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 11,034 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,925,254.
The fresh infections today is the highest in 129 days, since Oct 1. They were more than the number of Covid-19 patients who recovered, which totalled 6,036. This is expected to increase the number of active cases.
It is also the second consecutive day where fresh infections were in the five digits since October last year.
As of yesterday, the national infectvity rate (R-number) stood at 1.27. The value must be kept under 1.0 to prevent an exponential spread of the virus.
The states with an infectivity rate above the national average are Sabah (1.47), Perlis (1.4) and Sarawak (1.3).
The Health Ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.
The breakdown by states for yesterday (Feb 6), where 10,089 new cases were reported, is as follows:

At present, 135 Covid-19 patients are in the intensive care unit of which 81 are unable to breathe on their own and have been intubated.
This is an increase of 18.4 percent compared to the 114 Covid-19 patients in the intensive care unit a week ago.
To date, 366 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including 10 new clusters reported today.
The ongoing clusters have seen an increase of 16.6 percent from the 314 active clusters a week ago.
