COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported a total of 22 new Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Jan 20), bringing the cumulative death toll to 31,853.

This is the highest number of deaths reported in 10 days but still on a downward trend. Five of the deaths occurred before the victim could receive treatment.

The highest number of deaths was reported in Selangor (7) followed by Perak (3), Johor (2), Negeri Sembilan (2), Sabah (2), Terengganu (2), Kedah (1), Kelantan (1), Pahang (1) and Sarawak (1).

No new deaths were reported in Malacca, Perlis, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.

A total of 19 out of the 22 reported deaths or 86.4 percent happened in the last seven days.

The remaining deaths happened more than a week ago but were only recorded yesterday due to delays in data reporting.

An average of 22 Covid-19 deaths was reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 15, indicating a downtrend.

To date, 655 Covid-19 deaths have been reported this month.

A total of 1,174 Covid-19 deaths were reported in December 2021, 1,612 in November 2021, 2,704 in October 2021 and 9,678 in September 2021.

As of yesterday, there were 41,617 active Covid-19 cases. This is an increase of 3.3 percent from the 40,276 active infections a week ago.

Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has fallen by 18.4 percent from 51,026.
