Covid-19 deaths (Jan 15): 12 reported fatalities, active cases stable

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported a total of 12 new Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Jan 14), bringing the cumulative death toll to 31,762.

An average of 26 Covid-19 deaths was reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 17, indicating a downtrend.

The highest number of deaths were reported in Selangor (4) followed by Pahang (2), Penang (2), Terengganu (2), Johor (1) and Kedah (1).

No new deaths were reported in Kelantan, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Perlis, Sabah, Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.

According to the CovidNow website, Terengganu, Pahang and Kedah had the highest deaths per million due to Covid-19 over the past two weeks.

The Klang Valley reported 43 deaths due to Covid-19 over the past 14 days.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 961 deaths per one million population.

As of yesterday, there were 40,558 active Covid-19 cases. This is an increase of 2.2 percent from the 39,697 active infections a week ago.

Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has fallen by 28.8 percent from 56,991. However, the number of active cases remains relatively unchanged this month.
