COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 4,262 new Covid-19 cases today as the R-naught continues to trend down steadily.

Fresh infections were surpassed by 4,985 Covid-19 patients who recovered today. This is expected to reduce the number of active cases.

The R-number for the country is currently 0.92, down from 0.99 on Dec 7. An R-number of less than 1.00 suggests the spread of Covid-19 is decelerating.

  • Patients in ICU: 383
  • Intubated: 198

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients, including suspected ones, in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 10.3 percent lower compared to a week ago.

Those who require intubation have also declined by 14.7 percent from a week ago.

Hospital admission of Covid-19 patients is also down five percent over the past seven days compared to the preceding week.

The only exception was Penang, where admissions are up 35 percent over the same period. Covid-19 bed utilisation is highest in Kelantan, Malacca, and Terengganu.

To date, 248 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including six new clusters reported today.

The ongoing clusters have fallen by 2.4 percent from 254 a week ago.
