COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 5,594 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,597,080.

This is expected to contribute to a rise in the number of active cases, as it exceeds the number of recoveries (4,908 cases).

  • Patients in ICU: 532

  • Intubated: 266

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 2.4 percent lower compared to a week ago.

On the flip side, those who require intubation have increased by 0.8 percent from a week ago.

The average number of hospital admissions in the last seven days have declined by 5.3 percent compared to the preceding week.

However, hospital admissions in some states are on the rise, particularly in Penang (+30.3 percent) and Pahang (+19.4 percent) during the same period.

As of yesterday, the R-naught for Malaysia stood at 1.00. An R-naught of more than 1.00 suggests that the spread of Covid-19 was accelerating.

The only parts of Malaysia where the R-naught was below 1.00 are Labuan, Terengganu, Sarawak and Perlis.

A breakdown of new cases by states for today will only be released after midnight. Below is a breakdown of the new cases reported yesterday:

Selangor (968)
Kelantan (683)
Sabah (485)
Kedah (472)
Johor (374)
Pahang (356)
Malacca (291)
Penang (246)
Perak (228)
Kuala Lumpur (208)
Terengganu (202)
Sarawak (147)
Negeri Sembilan (132)
Putrajaya (70)
Perlis (13)
Labuan (10)

Notably, new cases in Sarawak are continuing to trend down steadily.

The Health Ministry is currently tracking 231 active clusters, including ten new ones.

The ongoing clusters have fallen by 8.3 percent from the 252 active clusters a week ago.

Details of the clusters will be published on its CovidNow website later.
