Covid-19 (Oct 12): 7,276 new cases

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 7,276 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,353,579.

Beginning Oct 9, the Health Ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow website.

The breakdown by states for yesterday (Oct 11), where 6,709 new cases were reported, is as follows:

Yesterday saw Selangor recording the lowest number of new Covid-19 cases in 161 days - since May 4.

States that have seen significant improvements include Sabah, Sarawak, Kedah and Penang.

The fresh cases today comprised 6,871 Malaysians (94.4 percent) and 405 non-citizens (5.6 percent). They were surpassed by a total of 10,555 Covid-19 patients who recovered today, pushing down the number of active cases.

  • Patients in ICU: 724
  • Intubated: 398

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 13.9 percent lower compared to a week ago.

Those who require intubation have also declined by 9.1 percent from a week ago.

Clusters

To date, 783 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including 14 new clusters reported today.

The ongoing clusters have fallen by 18.1 percent from the 956 active clusters a week ago.

The 14 new clusters today comprised six workplace clusters (42.9 percent), five community clusters (35.7 percent), one high-risk group cluster (7.1 percent), one non-education ministry institution cluster (7.1 percent) and one education institution cluster (7.1 percent).
