Covid-19 (Oct 9): 8,743 new cases, breakdown by states data delayed

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 8,743 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,332,221.

In a break from the norm, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah did not release a breakdown of the data by states.

Instead, Noor Hisham said the data will be available on CovidNow, the Health Ministry's portal which tracks the pandemic.

The portal normally only updates its data at midnight.

At the time of writing, today's new Covid-19 cases by states are not yet available on the portal.

The breakdown was not included in the Noor Hisham's daily statement either.

In his statement, Noor Hisham said that as the country move's to the endemic phase of living with Covid-19, the method of reporting and breakdown of data will focus more on key and important indicators.

On the nationwide front, the number of new Covid-19 cases today was outpaced by recoveries (14,422).

The national R-naught is at 0.86 indicating that the spread of Covid-19 is in decline.

However, Putrajaya, Perlis, and Negeri Sembilan have an R-naught above 1.0, suggesting that pandemic is worsening there. 

Clusters

To date, 845 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including 10 new clusters reported today.

The ongoing clusters have fallen by 19.1 percent from the 1,044 active clusters a week ago.

The 10 new clusters today comprised four workplace clusters (40.0 percent), four community clusters (40.0 percent) and two high-risk group clusters (20.0 percent).
