Covid-19 (Oct 7): 9,890 new cases, record high in Perlis

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 9,890 new Covid-19 cases.

Perlis reported a record number with 200 infections. The state has been relatively unaffected by Covid-19 until August when new daily cases were being reported in the double digits.

Elsewhere, new cases and hospitalisation of Covid-19 patients are generally trending down, except in Sarawak where Covid-19 bed use is trending up.

As of the latest available data yesterday, all states had reported an Rt of less than 1.00, which indicated that the outbreak was shrinking all across Malaysia.

Negeri Sembilan had the highest Rt of 0.99, followed by Malacca (0.97) and Perlis (0.96). The national average was 0.86.

  • Patients in ICU: 827 (782 confirmed; 45 suspected)
  • Intubated: 445 (336 confirmed; 109 probable)

For today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 10.5 percent lower compared to a week ago.

Those who require intubation have also declined by 12.7 percent from a week ago.

Clusters

To date, 911 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including 13 new clusters reported today. Overall, active cluster account for 697 (7.0 percent) of today's cases.

The ongoing clusters have fallen by 16.3 percent from the 1,088 active clusters a week ago.

The 13 new clusters today comprised eight workplace clusters (61.5 percent), three community clusters (23.1 percent) and two non-education ministry institution clusters (15.4 percent).
