YOURSAY | Govt running out of ways to fight the pandemic spike

YOURSAY | 'No matter what variation of MCO or SOP was introduced, it didn't work…'

Covid-19 (July 6): 7,654 new cases, situation worsens in Klang Valley

OCT: The Perikatan Nasional (PN) government lost the fight against the pandemic a long time ago.

There were so many various movement control orders (MCOs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs) that they became liabilities, instead of assets. No matter what variation of MCO or SOP was introduced, they didn’t work.

These ministers don't want to admit defeat. Every day, they say they are winning the fight but in reality, they are beaten. None of these ministers has any experience in crisis management. They are politicians with syiok sendiri (full of themselves) syndrome.

There have been unclear SOPs, subjective enforcement and double standards everywhere. Other countries are opening up now whereas our ministers keep enforcing more MCOs and SOPs.

There is no way Malaysia can reach Phase 4 of the recovery plan within a year. Even getting through Phase 1 is a problem.

Next week is Hari Raya Haji. There will be more attempts at inter-district and inter-state travel, whether you like it or not. We may see another big spike in new Covid-19 cases. Then we will be back to square one.

Malaysia is trapped in a vicious cycle. Don't expect positive results when these ministers are still around. The rakyat will become collateral damage.

Salvage Malaysia: Can the Health Ministry please explain to the rakyat using science and big data why, despite the full MCO and now the enhanced MCO in parts of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, are the numbers still spiking?

Are most of these cases actually coming from foreign workers in factories? As far as I know, vaccination for Malaysians is picking up speed. And if it’s foreign workers, what is your game plan because they are human too, like us? They too have families.

I’m fully vaccinated and still, I observe all SOPs. The thing that’s sickening is that the SOPs treat all vaccinated people like they have not been vaccinated. Just continuous lockdown after lockdown.

Don’t be a one-trick pony. Learn from the United Kingdom. They don’t even care about daily numbers. Their priority is focusing on bringing down ICU (intensive care unit) numbers and deaths.

YellowCheetah9257: Everyone in the comments is too obsessed with the daily Covid-19 numbers.

Indeed, look at the UK. Twice our population, so we expect our numbers to be half of theirs. The UK already has over 50 percent of its population fully vaccinated, but they just reported 28,000 new cases per day. New cases will keep on coming, regardless.

Don't worry about the daily figures. Just vaccinate yourself and stay home as much as possible.

Velarooks: @YellowCheetah9257, yes and no. The high number of cases in the UK is probably because they aren’t in lockdown anymore, just look at the attendance at the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship.

We should remain cautious because the main difference, as you pointed out, is our vaccination rate in comparison with the UK and how they still have rising cases, but did you notice their deaths? It's roughly a third of ours for quite a period of time now and that's because vaccination is at work.

With Malaysia’s daily numbers, it's just surprising that it's still going up long after the full lockdown has been in place.

Maya: It could be that the Delta variant of Covid-19 is spreading fast, at least in the Klang Valley.

How contact tracing is done leaves a lot to be desired. The SOPs have also failed miserably. Now, the only thing left is vaccination and that seems slow and target groups are not being vaccinated fast.

I don’t see any news about healthcare support services like home monitoring, etc. The death toll is high and worse, the brought-in-dead is also high, with no reasons given.

ICU and ventilator-dependent cases are still high and numbers seem to not be coming down. In fact, it appears numbers keep staying the same, meaning they are 100 percent used up.

This is a really sad and worrying state of affairs.

VioletKite5133: It is imperative to focus a substantial number of vaccines to inoculate as many people as possible in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur now because there are close to 5,000 cases arising from these important economic areas.

It is not about bringing additional Russian vaccines into Selangor and KL as there is sufficient Sinovac and Pfizer, but where did they go to? The kampung in Kelantan or Pahang?

Plus, MySejahtera is absolute crap. You are hardly able to get through its hotline and if you do, they are there to help new registrations only. Any other issues, you need to write an email, and you get an automated reply anyway.

I am in Phase 2 of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP) and I am still waiting for my jab.

Pleb: Health DG Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, it is time to expedite the review of the Sputnik V vaccine.

In Argentina, almost eight million citizens are vaccinated with one dose of Sputnik V so far, with about one million with the second dose.

Malaysia must be proactive to obtain real-world vaccination data from other countries that use it, not just wait for the manufacturer to provide all the details.

In Argentina, there is an analysis done that this vaccine managed to reduce the mortality rate among the above-60 age group vaccinated with just one dose by up to 80 percent.

This proves that at least the vaccine is safe to use, and its efficacy is sort of confirmed.

India has granted it emergency use in order to combat sky-high Covid infection, so Malaysia, after reviewing data proactively obtained, should do so as well.
