Covid-19 (April 8): 1,285 new cases, 513 in Klang Valley

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 1,285 new cases of which 513 were reported in the Klang Valley alone.

The Klang Valley accounted for 39.9 percent of new cases while Sabah and Sarawak accounted for 24.9 percent of new cases. These are the two worst hit regions in the country. 

Malaysians made up the bulk of new cases (77.4 percent). Active cases have remained relatively stable since March 18.

State

As of yesterday, the R-naught number for the entire country has gone down to 0.98.

A R-naught number of below 1 suggested that the spread of Covid-19 was slowing down.

The regions with a R-naught number of more than one are Perak, Sarawak, Sabah and Kelantan.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur, which had 120 new cases, reported its highest number in 17 days.

Deaths

Another four Covid-19 related death was reported today in Selangor (2), Sarawak (1) and Sabah (1), bringing the national death toll to 1,308.

The victims were all Malaysian citizens with comorbidity. Their age was between 60 and 83.

Clusters

The Health Ministry today reported that 348 Covid-19 clusters are still active, down from 467 a month ago.

There were 47 existing clusters which reported new cases, the highest of which was the Jalan Harapan prison cluster, which has been active since November 2020.

Another four new clusters were classified today.
