Covid-19 (April 3): 1,638 new cases, almost 500 in Perak

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 1,638 new cases of Covid-19 and three deaths.

The new infections comprised 58 percent Malaysians and 42 percent non-citizens.

New infections also outpaced recoveries leading to a bump in active cases.

  • Active cases: 14,432
  • Patients in ICUs: 167
  • Intubated: 81

States

Perak reported 494 new cases, the highest in the country today.

According to the Health Ministry, the bulk of the new infections came from the Jalan Pelabuhan cluster which reported 486 out of the 487 cluster related cases from the state.

The cluster is linked to a factory in Manjung, with the first case reported on Feb 13. It has 1,312 cases in total of which 638 are still active.

Perak was followed by Selangor at 352 cases, Sarawak at 290 cases and Penang at 92 cases.

Deaths

There were three fatalities today bringing the death toll to 1,286.

Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, and Kelantan each reported one death.

Those who died were aged between 50 and 87.

Clusters

A total of 357 out of 1,395 clusters were still active.

This includes the seven clusters reported today as well as another 13 that were declared resolved.

The resolved clusters are Merotai Besar, Jengka Tujuh, Jalan Perindustrian Elektronik, Perindustrian Pelepas, Jalan Bukit Sentosa, Jalan Aman, Persiaran Kuala, Tapak Bina Muda, Jalan Mutiara Barat, Jalan Tanjung Empat, Industri 19, Lagoon Selatan and Tapak Bina Pantai Dalam.

Only one cluster - Jalan Pelabuhan - reported triple-digit new cases.
