YOURSAY | ‘Hadi’s call is sheer hypocrisy of pot calling the kettle black.’
Don't bicker over PM post, there's an emergency now - Hadi
Gerard Lourdesamy: PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, can you tell us exactly how many MPs were supporting Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Perikatan Nasional (PN) even before the emergency was declared - 111 or more MPs?
The fact is that Muhyiddin lost the majority well before he improperly advised the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to declare the emergency.
When he tendered his advice to the Agong, he had, at best, only 108 MPs on his side. That is not a majority. Clearly, he had no authority to advise the Agong to declare the emergency.
His so-called government lost its legality and legitimacy the moment his numbers in Parliament fell below 111 MPs. The Emergency Ordinance 2021 has sought to legalise and legitimise an unlawful and unconstitutional government that had already lost its majority in the Dewan Rakyat before Jan 11, 2021.
In effect, a dictatorship is now running the government without support in Parliament and with the Federal Constitution and Parliament suspended until Aug 1, 2021.
The Covid-19 pandemic is not a reason to destroy democracy, the rule of law and fundamental freedoms in the country. This emergency is a political emergency and not a law and order, economic or public health one.
Hadi, being the religious fanatic that he is, will defend anything that serves his agenda of racism and religious bigotry. No other country in the world suspended their constitution and Parliament to deal with a health crisis.
Now that this precedent has been created, in future, any PM who has lost his majority in Parliament will be able to conveniently advise an emergency and remain in power indefinitely instead of resigning or advising a dissolution of Parliament.
Salvage Malaysia: Indeed, this is not about changing PM during the Covid-19 pandemic. It’s about a leader who has lost his majority as per the Federal Constitution to be PM.
There are two separate issues here. One, PN may have already lost the majority. Two, who will be the next PM - whether interim or otherwise will be left to the wisdom of Agong.
We must abide by the Federal Constitution at all times. That cannot be compromised.
Jamy: Hadi, can you prove that this emergency is to bring the Covid-19 figures down?
There are over 100 selfish and self-centred MPs - PAS, Umno and Bersatu MPs – who are more interested in protecting their own positions than the state the nation is in.
There are enough laws set in place to take care of the pandemic. If anyone has the support of enough MPs, he has that right to be chosen to be the PM. This is according to the law and rules set up.
The pandemic will still be there for whoever is chosen to be PM to handle. There cannot be obstruction placed or excuses made to stop anybody who has enough support from a majority of MPs to become PM.
Only Parliament can decide this. There should be an emergency Parliament sitting, and this question of who has the most support should be sorted out once and for all. Only then can this nation move on.
Hadi, if you are sincere and religious as you claim, why not select a committee of experts and professionals to handle the Covid crisis?
They should also be given a free hand without political or government interference.
A committee from all the political parties should be formed to oversee their work and at the same time to report to. They won’t interfere but are there to gain knowledge of what the actual situation of the crisis is.
Hadi, do you have the guts to entertain such a move or will you come up with all sorts of excuses to hide the real truth from the public?
OrangePony5652: This is the sheer hypocrisy of pot calling the kettle black.
When Covid-19 broke out in China last November and the first few cases were detected in Johor as imported cases, and together with a few other cases already detected in Kuala Lumpur, what did he and the other backdoor politicians do? They were politicking to oust the then Pakatan Harapan government.
It was PAS party members, Umno and those renegades who were plotting to overthrow Harapan and elect Muhyiddin as the new PM. So, who was in the thick of the fighting to elect Muhyiddin to the PM post?
They were so busy scrambling around gathering MPs together and neglected the danger of Covid-19. That was until it broke out at the mosque congregation of tabligh followers.
Oct: When the PM is not doing his job well, do we mean we have to take it? If so, then it's not democratic.
What we need now is someone who can do it better, and better still, this person can do it well without declaring emergency.
The government has not proven that with emergency, the infection number goes south and below 1,000 mark. It looks like last year, the strict movement control order (MCO) without emergency is better than the current MCO with emergency.
The PN government has almost one year of Covid-19 experience and yet we still have high number of infections daily.
Anonymous Observer: In America, the people voted Joe Biden to be the new president during a pandemic, which is even more severe than in our country.
An able leader with legitimate standing is needed now, not when the pandemic is over. Hadi just wants to enjoy his stay in his office and protect his position.
What Matters: The PM has failed to rescue the people. He cannot even gain enough confidence to continue his failed plan. Of course, he should be replaced.
