COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 3,680 new Covid-19 cases amidst much of the population entering their third week of movement control order (MCO) restrictions today.
The number of precious intensive care beds used by Covid-19 patients reached a record high of 314 today with 122 people requiring ventilators to breathe.
Leading indicators:
- Active cases: 42,389 ↑ (1,815 more than the previous day)
- Patients in ICU: 314 ↑ (34 more than the previous day, new record)
- Intubated patients: 122 ↑ (11 more than the previous day, new record)
- Deaths: 7
While the Klang Valley had the most number of new cases (41.6 percent), Johor was the state with the most number of cases followed by Sabah.
The vast majority of new cases in Johor are from six new workplace clusters (details at the end of this article).
The number of cases detected through "other screenings" in Kuala Lumpur was high at 244 out of 698 new cases. There is no way to discern how many of these cases were detected among those with symptoms but are not linked to existing clusters because the Kuala Lumpur health department does not provide such figures, unlike Selangor and Perak.
Of the 3,680 new cases, 65 percent involved Malaysians.

Deaths
There were seven reported deaths today of which three occurred in Selangor and two in Perak. There was also one death in Sabah and one in Sarawak.
The current national Covid-19 death toll stood at 707. The number of Covid-19 deaths this month stood at 236, up from 111 last month. The Klang Valley had disproportionately more deaths (43.2 percent of the month's total so far).

The Health Ministry reported that 80 out of 366 active Covid-19 clusters had new cases today.
The Pasai cluster, which was raging in the Sibu district of Sarawak, had 45 new cases. This community cluster was classified on Jan 9 and now has 1,573 cumulative cases.
Only three clusters - Parit Lanjut (521, new), Tapak Bina Persiaran Tecoma (157, new), and Industri Grisek (144, new) - reported new cases in the triple digits.
