COVID-19 | The Health Ministry has reported 2,295 new cases of Covid-19 as of noon today.
This is the first time that cases have exceeded the 2,000 mark for three consecutive days.
Selangor had the most cases, while there was a surge of cases in both Johor and Penang.
However, the number of recoveries was even higher with 3,321.
Of the new cases, 135 were from clusters linked to lockups, prisons, and immigration detention centres.
Leading indicators:
- Active cases: 22,398 ↓ (1,035 fewer than the previous day, sixth consecutive day of new records)
- Patients in ICU: 125 ↓ (One fewer from the previous day, record-high)
- Intubated patients: 51 ↓ (Three fewer than the previous day)
- Deaths: 9

The fatalities bring the national death toll to 483.
Based on their patient numbers, five of the deceased were likely admitted to hospital within the last two days as of noon Dec 31.
At noon Dec 31, there were 113,010 total cases.
Details of the deceased are as follows:
Patient 90,455: Malaysian male, 73, died at the Sungai Buloh Hospital. Had a history of diabetes, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, benign prostatic hyperplasia, cataracts, and glaucoma.
Patient 97,077: Malaysian female, 67, died at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital. Had a history of hypertension, cancer, and dyslipidemia.
Patient 101,095: Malaysian female, 41, died at the Sungai Buloh Hospital. Had a history of diabetes and obesity.
Patient 112,584: Malaysian male, 82, died at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Ipoh. Had a history of chronic obstructive airway disease, dementia, and hearing problems.
Patient 113,247: Malaysian female, 65, died at the Duchess of Kent Hospital, Sandakan. Had a history of diabetes and hypertension.
Patient 114,024: Malaysian male, 76, died at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang. Had a history of diabetes, hypertension, and stroke.
Patient 114,025: Malaysia male, 66, died at the Ampang Hospital. Had a history of tuberculosis.
Patient 114,536: Malaysian male, 72, died at the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital, Seremban. Had a history of diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia.
Patient 115,055: Malaysian male, 72. died at the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital, Kota Bharu. Had a history of diabetes, heart and kidney diseases, chronic obstructive airway disease, and peripheral vascular disease.

According to Selangor Health Department figures, 49 of the 140 "other screenings" were people who had sought testing after developing symptoms, while seven tested positive after developing a severe acute respiratory infection.
Another 54 were people who tested positive during work screening. Three cases were also detected through surveillance of healthcare workers.
Four people tested positive during pre-hospital admission screening, and four others tested positive during pre-flight screenings.

Meanwhile, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement that there were nine new clusters.
The Harum cluster in Johor Bahru, Johor is workplace-related and has 206 cases to date. Cases were first detected through targeted screening today (Jan 2).
The Tapak Bina Casuarina cluster in Sepang and Petaling, Selangor has 53 cases to date. Cases were first detected through targeted workplace screening which began Dec 27.
The Batu Lapan cluster in Tambunan, Ranau, and Kota Belud, Sabah has 52 cases today. The index case tested positive on Dec 26 through close contact tracing.
The Jalan BBN cluster in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan has 27 cases to date. Cases were first detected through targeted workplace screening on Dec 18.
The Dewani cluster in Johor Bahru, Johor has 25 cases to date. Cases were first detected through targeted workplace screening today.
The Renggam cluster in Petaling, Sepang, and Klang, Selangor has 20 cases to date. Cases were first detected through targeted workplace screening today.
The Belukar cluster in Machang, Kelantan has 17 cases to date. The index case tested positive on Dec 26.
The Kolam Permai cluster in Kuala Terengganu and Kemaman, Terengganu, and Petaling, Selangor has nine cases to date. The index case tested positive on Dec 30.
The Mador cluster in Meradong and Sibu, Sarawak has eight cases to date. The index case tested positive on Dec 30.
