Bugaya assemblyperson Manis Muka Mohd Darah, who died yesterday, was buried at the Masjid Kampung Bugaya cemetery at 4.45am today.
Her remains arrived in Semporna from Kota Kinabalu by land at 3.30am and the burial was attended by family members.
Manis Muka died yesterday afternoon at the Gleneagles Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, where she had been admitted for kidney problems. She was 65.
Her daughter, Fara Deeba Sabardin, said her mother had various health complications, including high blood pressure and diabetes, and had undergone knee surgery.
“Three days ago she complained of pain and we sent her to the Gleneagles Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.
“We found out she had kidney problems and when her condition deteriorated, she was put on ventilator support, and at 6am yesterday, we were called by the doctor and allowed to see her,” she said, adding that the ventilator machine was switched off at 1.36pm.
In the recent Sabah election, Manis Muka, who was also Semporna Warisan women’s wing chief, defended the Bugaya state seat with a 6,005-vote majority in a seven-cornered fight.
She left her husband Sabardin Omrah, 76, and 13 children, comprising seven sons and six daughters, aged between 26 and 49.
