UPDATED 6.50PM | COVID-19 | An enhanced movement control order (EMCO) has been enforced in Medan 88 in Salak Tinggi, Sepang, after Covid-19 cases were detected there.
The two-week lockdown will be from tomorrow, Nov 12, till Nov 25.
Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced this evening that all businesses in the vicinity will need to shut except for shops selling basic necessities.
“The enhanced MCO will affect 88 shophouses, 284 premises and 800 residents.
“The enhanced MCO will also allow the Health Ministry to perform targeted testing and control the movement of individuals to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the community,” Ismail said.
According to the standard operating procedure (SOP) for areas under enhanced MCO, residents must stay at home and only one person per household is allowed to leave to obtain basic necessities.
The authorities are supposed to deliver basic foodstuffs to affected residents.
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari and Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rina Harun paid a visit to the Medan 88 locality earlier today.
Government newswire previously reported that the area spans 2.64 hectares.
As of Nov 10, 40 positive Covid-19 cases were reported in the area.
The rest of Selangor is currently under a conditional MCO, where residents are allowed to travel to work but are restricted in their movements for social purposes.
EMCO lifted in two Lahad Datu areas
Ismail also announced today that the enhanced MCO, previously imposed on two Lahad Datu localities - Mutiara Kasih Apartment and Taman Khazanah Indah - has been lifted.
This comes after none of the residents tested positive for Covid-19.
The National Security Council had previously decided to extend the lockdown, pending the results of a second round of tests.
“As of Nov 10, the Health Ministry found that all 5,189 samples from its second tests (for Covid-19) are negative. The ministry also found no new Covid-19 cases in both localities in the past 18 days,” Ismail said.
Residents from the Mutiara Kasih Apartment and Taman Khazanah Indah previously protested the enhanced MCO extension, saying the move would result in a further loss in income and job losses.
Both areas were first placed under lockdown almost a month ago, on Oct 13.
