1. Bersatu’s Hajiji Mohd Noor has been sworn in as the 16th Sabah chief minister, while sources close to Warisan president Shafie Apdal said he won’t be making any effort to engineer defections, although he has yet to concede defeat.
2. Friction between Umno and Bersatu continued despite the swearing-in, and a crisis was averted when Hajiji gave his new Deputy Chief Minister Bung Moktar Radin a last-minute portfolio swap to be placed in charge of public works.
3. DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke said Pakatan Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim touched on plans to take over the federal government during a meeting on Monday, but the PKR leader did not divulge details.
4. Selangor assemblypersons from both sides of the political divide are opposing the state government’s plan to degazette the Kuala Langat (North) Forest Reserve to make way for development.
5. The Johor government will pay the Orang Laut Seletar community of Stulang Laut RM5.2 million as compensation for taking over their ancestral land. Their village will also be gazetted as an Orang Asli settlement, as part of the settlement to a 15-year legal battle that has been hailed as a “great victory”.
6. About half of the Covid-19 cases outside of Sabah have been linked to travel within the state as of Monday, while the screening of travellers returning from Sabah has noticeably improved. The targeted enhanced movement control order (MCO) in parts of Sabah, meanwhile, may be broadened.
7. Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said travellers returning from Sabah whose homes are unsuitable for quarantine may contact the National Disaster Management Agency to be placed at a government quarantine station.
