CORONAVIRUS | There are 88 new cases of Covid-19 as of noon today, marking the eighth straight day infections have remained in the double digits.
Meanwhile, 121 patients have been cured and discharged. The total number of recoveries is now at 3,633.
Whereas the total number of positive cases is 5,691, of which only 1,932 are active.
There was one new death reported. raising the toll to 96.
Patient 2,978 was a 61-year-old Malaysian man who had a history of diabetes, hypertension and kidney disease.
He was a close contact of Patient 1,345 who had travelled to Indonesia. The deceased was treated at the Sungai Buloh Hospital on March 31 and died at 2.29am this morning.
Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (above) said of the active cases, 41 require treatment in ICU, with 18 on ventilators.
Meanwhile, of the new infections, 39 are from Selangor Mansion in Kuala Lumpur, which is under an enhanced movement control order.
Noor Hisham attributed the jump in cases there to the virus' incubation period.
Eight new cases were also reported in the locked down areas surrounding the Selayang wholesale market.
Another 15 new cases were reported in Kampung Sungai Lui in Hulu Langat, from the local madrasah (religious school).
Of the 88 new cases, Noor Hisham said 13 were imported cases and 75 were local transmissions.
