CORONAVIRUS | The number of new Covid-19 infections in the country dropped to 54 cases today, a new low since the movement control order period began.

Today is also the second straight day that new infection cases have remained in the double digits.

Total cases are now at 5,305.

Meanwhile, 135 patients were discharged today, bringing the number of total recoveries to date at 3,102 or 58.5 percent of the total number of cases.

There were two new deaths reported today bringing the death toll to 88.

The new deaths are as follows:

Patient 2,657 (87th death)

A 60-year-old Malaysian man with a history of hypertension and diabetes. He was treated at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on March 30, and died on April 12, at 3.20pm.

Patient 5,252 (88th death)

A 36-year-old man from Myanmar. He was treated at the Selayang Hospital on April 17, as a late-stage patient with severe acute respiratory infection. He died at 10am on the same day.

Meanwhile, there is a new infection cluster in Sabah affecting health workers from three hospitals, with 31 cases thus far.

The Health Ministry will also be embarking on large-scale testing of migrant workers as part of targeted mass screening.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah at a press conference today, said while the number of infections is dropping the people should not be complacent as the war is not over.
